to drive up
phrasal verb
To arrive at a place in a vehicle
- 1She drove up to the house and parked.
- 2They drove up to the restaurant for dinner.
When you go to a place using a car or another vehicle and stop there, it means you have come to that place by driving. For example, if you go to your friend's house in your car and stop outside, you have reached there by driving.
People often say "drive up" when someone arrives at a house, restaurant, or store in a car and stops right outside the entrance.
