to back up
phrasal verb
To support or confirm someone's statement or action

- 2The data backs up his claims.
When you agree with what someone says or does, and you give reasons or proof to show they are right, you are helping them. For example, if your friend says something is true and you give more information to show it is true, you are helping them.
In meetings or group discussions, people often ask, "Can anyone back me up on this?" when they want others to support what they are saying.
